Frequently Asked Questions

Robina Scott Kindergarten requires families to consent to us receiving their Kindergarten Funding. As a community run, not for profit, offering free kindergarten, this is how we gather funds to run our programs. As kindergarten funding can only be received by one service at a time, you will need to ensure your long day care is aware that you do not want them to receive your kindergarten funding.

Kindergarten funding and the Child Care Subsidy are different and majority of our children attend both program types, with families utilising the CCS at their long day care.

Can my child attend sessional kindergarten and long day care at the same time?

In order to qualify for the 4 year old program, your child must turn 4 years of age by April 30th in the year they will attend the 4 year old class. Likewise, in order to apply for a place in the 3 year old program, your child must turn 3 years of age by April 30th in their attendance year.

How old must my child be to enrol in a 3 or 4 year old kindergarten program?

Where can I find information regarding 3 and 4 year old enrolments through the council?

Hobson’s Bay City Council currently handle all 3 and 4 year old enrolments. If you have questions about this process and the associated timeline, please follow this link.

Can I come in for a physical tour of the kindergarten?

No, however when council considers placing children it will take into consideration the current service that the child attends if they wish to move up to 4 year old kindergarten within the same service. With Robina Scott Kindergarten’s availability of sessions, parents are often offered a place within the 4 year old program permitting they register in a timely manner.

Are children in the 3 year old program automatically offered a place in the 4 year old kindergarten classes?

Does Robina Scott Kindergarten have free kindergarten?

From 2023, Robina Scott Kindergarten will deliver Free Kindergarten in line with the Victorian Government Best Start, Best Life reform.

This means free kindergarten for three year old children up to 15 hours per week and four year old children for 15 hours a week. Where the program exceeds 15 hours per week, such as in the case of Red Group, families will have the choice to accept the additional three hours per week or opt into a 15 hour group. Where families accept the Red Group program, they will be expected to pay fees in line with the operating expenses for these additional hours.
